For which customer groups is VoIP worthwhile?

VoIP is worthwhile for everyone that has internet access in such kind as that he can also use it for phone calls. Depending on the provider the costs for telephony and networking can be drastically reduced. Apart of this only one network is required which is used for IT as well as telephony. As such VoIP is the technology of the future.

Why should I shift round to VoIP?

The technology is fully developed on network and end device side and suitable for the use in large scales.

Which advantages have VoIP telephone systems compared with traditional systems?

The technologies of information technologies and communication technologies will melt more and more. This is called ICT technique. Hence it is essential to develop systems which provide interfaces for both technologies. Through the use of VoIP-PABX this is ensured. Besides the VoIP technology is simpler related to infrastructure and so more economic and the accustomed ISDN characteristics are preserved.

How can I shift to VoIP?

There are various possibilities. One possibility is to exchange everything (PABX, end devices and wiring). Especially the renewal of the wiring in average to large buildings is often paired with extensive and so expensive structural measures. Often the more economical path is to acquire systems allowing your existing telecommunications infrastructure to work with VoIP as does the NovaTec Internet Pathfinder. This is called “gentle migration”. This comes often at a far more favourable price and provides the same benefits.

Do I need to consider something when switching to VoIP?

You will need a provider that provides the required bandwidth. Possible acquisitions within the infrastructure depend on the existing devices.

Can I continue to use the systems I have used up to now?

By using the NovaTec Internet Pathfinder NIP you can continue to use your old devices and maintain your accustomed environment. As such you don’t have to get used to new devices.

What is a Wi-Fi or SIP mobile phone?

A Wi-Fi mobile phone is a wireless telephone (Wireless Fidelity – Wi-Fi) similar to DECT. If a WLAN network is available and the necessary conditions are given you can telephone via the WLAN network. As such it is no longer necessary to provide a DECT network.

What is a dual mode mobile phone?

A dual mode mobile phone (not to be confused with a dual band mobile phone) provides the possibility to use Wi-Fi and GSM technology. If you use it in the range of your WLAN network you can call people via WLAN and IP. As soon as you leave the range of your WLAN network you call via GSM. In adequate infrastructures the transition from Wi-Fi to GSM and back will work uninterrupted. This end device mobility (FMC) enables the user to take his personal end device with him wherever he goes and to use it wherever he is. The service mobility supplies the user with a package of consistent services irrespective of end device, access network and whereabouts. The personal mobility ensures that the user is available everywhere under his telephone number and also includes roaming between different networks. This convenience function is available with the NovaTec Mobile Gateway NMG

How can I send or receive a fax via VoIP?

It is necessary that your VoIP infrastructure supports the protocols T.37 and T.38 in order to enable you to send faxes. The NovaTec Internet Pathfinder supports these and also G.711.

What is a NovaTec NIP?

NIP is the acronym for “NovaTec Internet Pathfinder”. The NIP systems and machines enable the installation of networks with IP and classical interfaces (PRI, BRI, analogue, UP0 and U0).

Which interfaces are supported by the NovaTec Internet Pathfinder?

The NovaTec Internet Pathfinder supports not only the IP interfaces with SIP protocol but also the classic ISDN interfaces like PRI, BRI, analogue, U0 and UP0.

What makes the NovaTec Internet Pathfinder so flexible?

The typical operating site for the NovaTec NIP systems is in companies which are in the progress of switching to VoIP communication and still dependent on classic ISDN interfaces.

In how far can the GSM network be integrated into the NIP systems in order to cut costs for calls to mobile phones?

There is a GSM module available for NovaTec systems which allow the integrations of mobile networks. Please find further information here.

What would a typical infrastructure look like into which a NIP system might be integrated?

A typical application consists of a Cisco Call Manager which makes the VoIP environment available. If ISDN interfaces like BRI or PRI interfaces are required as to enable networking via LWL the NovaTec NIP System acts as VoIP gateway and so allows networking across locations. For typical application please look at NovaTec Internet Pathfinder NIP.

A synchronous data transfer is necessary for my application. How is this implemented?

To achieve a synchronous data transfer the NovaTec NIP systems can be synchronised via RMCS.

What is the SMTP protocol?

The simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) is a protocol of the internet protocol family which is used for the exchange of emails in computer networks. Primarily it is used to feed in and forward emails. When picking up news other specialised protocols like POP3 or IMAP are used. SMTP servers traditionally accept connections on port 25 (“smtp”), more up-to-date servers also accept connections on port 587 (“submission”).

What is the protocol T.37?

With T.37 (store and forward) a fax is first received and then buffered in the local database. As soon as the page has been completely received and packed it is converted into an email and sent to the addressee as such with the SMTP protocol. Now the received fax can be forwarded directly via email to the contacted addressee. The times in which employees had to go to a central fax and separate the pages from one another are over. When forwarding the NovaTec NIP system builds up a connection, sends the fax and poses as the original fax machine.

What is the protocol T.38?

With T.38 (real time fax via IP) there is no buffering and the fax is transmitted in real time.
