Networking of multifunctional terminals in Hannover

Problem

At the underground and tram stops in Hannover multifunctional terminals have been installed. By pressing a button you can set up a voice connection with the Underground service centre or, in an emergency, with the control centre of the fire department and rescue service. These terminals are equipped with an ISDN-S0 -Interface.

Due to the fact that the underground and tram network covers the city area of Hannover as well as the suburban regions, for the networking of these terminals distances of several kilometres have to be bridged.

Solution

The use of the Private Terminator Integrated PTI at the network hubs and the PT-US in the terminals allow brdiging a distance up to 8 km by using a twisted pair copper wire.

Through this the costs for the network infrastructure could be reduced drastically and several terminals could be connected with one network hub.

Status reports of wind generators

Problem

In times when the meaning of alternative energy sources increases more and more, wind generators become more important. Usually these wind parks consist of a field of generators, which are spread over a very large area.

In case of a fault the head of the generators turns out of the wind direction automatically and the rotor blades are also turned this way, so that the rotor is blocked and cannot rotate.

Normally wind generators are running as stand-alone equipment, i.e., there is no service personal on site. As a result of this,  the status of the generators must be requested by a remote service centre with the ability to react in any case of faults.

For this purpose the wind parks are connected with the public telephone network to allow the operating company to request the status.

Due to the fact that the wind generators are spread over a wide area,  the connections between the generators and the network hub mean that long distances have to be bridged.

The ISDN-BRI-Interface allows a distance of up to 1000 m, which is often not enough for the distances concerned with a wind park.

Solution

The use of the PT-SU/US allows the range extension of the ISDN-BRI-Interface up to 8 km by using a twisted pair copper wire. If more than 4 ISDN-BRI-Interfaces have to be extended, we recommend the use of the PTI and the PT-US .

Networking of municipal institutions

Problem

In times, when city councils have to realise more and more savings, one important way for them to make these savings is to reduce costs in the field of telecommunications.

Normally every city has different institutions, e. g. town hall, fire department, district council etc., which are located in different places within the city area. For a telephone call between these, e. g. from town hall to the district council, this telephone call over the public telephone network has to be paid by the community.

The city of Schweinfurt has its own network consisting of several twisted pair copper wires. These connect together afore mentioned institutions, but these were not used due to the long distances between these institutions.

The task was, to find a solution for using these lines for the internal connections between all of the institutions.

Solution

The use of the PT-SU/US allows the range extension of the ISDN-BRI-Interface up to 8 km with the use of a simple twisted pair copper wire. If more than 4 ISDN-BRI-Interfaces have to be extended, we recommend the use of the PTI and the   PT-US .

Realisation:

Wind parks usually have a central power house, where also the feeding into the public electricity network takes place. In this power house an ISDN-PABX is installed which provides the required numbers of ISDN-BRI  -Interfaces. These are connected via a  PT-SU and a PT-US with the concerned wind generator  where they are connected to the control system. There every single generator can be reached by telephone and there is no need for expensive cabling or even an own exchange line.

Realisation

In the town hall of Schweinfurt an ISDN-telephone exchange is located, which provides several ISDN-BRI-Interfaces. For a connection e. g. between town hall and city council, the BRI-Interface of the telephone exchange is connected with a PT-SU. The U-Interface of the PT-SU is connected with the copper wire, which connects the town hall with the city council. On the other side of this wire (at city council) the PT-US is connected and behind this, either an ISDN-telephone or another PABX is attached. After a one-time investment for the PTs, the connections between the institutions are now free of charge. This results in a continuing cost reduction.
