NMG Application

eMail-to-SMS and SMS-to-eMail for GSM Gateway

The function E-mail-to-SMS is a feature of our NovaTec Mobile Gateways NMG. This feature enables the sending of E-mails to mobile phones, hereby E-mails are sent to the recipient as text message (SMS).

The functionality:

The E-mail is written by the sender in the usual way, with the usual tools.

  • A special E-mail address is assigned to the recipient´s mobile phone number.
  • By sending the mail to this address (e. g. employee_xy@NMG.de) the NovaTec gateway automatically converts this to a message for the assigned mobile phone number.
  • The recipient receives this mail as a text message (SMS) on his mobile phone.

This conversion also works vice versa:

  • The sender puts a text message into his mobile phone.
  • Via the NovaTec gateway the message is send to the recipient as a normal E-mail on his usual mail-account.

Mails can be sent not only to one recipient, but also to a defined group.

Therefore a mailing list is created, in which defined mobile phone numbers are assigned to this group. By sending a mail to this group (e. g. Marketing@NMG.de) all assigned mobile phone numbers receive this mail as text message (SMS).

GSM Call-back function for GSM Gateway

The GSM Call-back function is a feature of the NovaTec Mobile Gateway NMG to realize cost-saving connections from mobile phones to any destination number in fixed or mobile networks.

The functionality:

  • A mobile phone user wants to set up a connection from his mobile phone to any destination number (Fixed network, mobile network, national or international).
  • Instead of dialling directly the destination number, the user calls the number of the SIM-Card in the NMG.

  • The NMG checks the calling user for authorisation etc., without setting up a connection.
  • The NMG immediately calls back the user, so that depending of available SIM-Card for this part of the connection only a network internal tariff (GSM – GSM) is charged.

  • The caller takes the call from the NMG and dials afterwards the requested destination number.
  • The NMG sets up a connection to the destination number via the integrated Least Cost Router.

The advantage:

By using the call-back function two connections are charged:

  1. NMG calling user (network internal connection GSM — GSM)
  2. NMG destination number (via Least Cost Router)

These connections together usually represents a cheaper alternative than the direct dialling of the destination number on the mobile phone, especially for calls to fixed network or international calls.

The GSM Call-back feature can be realised with any NovaTec Gateway.

NovaTec Billing

The NovaTec Billing software computes comfortably and reliably the telephone costs classified to the respective telephone user/numbers

This enables corporates with different departments to estimate costs per single telephone calls, or per department for calls that have been routed over the NovaTec Mobile Gateway NMG and send billing invoices for these departments or cost centres which may be shared by different customers or enterprises.

The NovaTec Billing also enables the NMG to be used as SIM housing, where different SIM slots in the NMG can be defined and leased/hired to several companies/enterprises, with a real time billing option showing the necessary information, including Network Provider, DDI number, target numbers, date and times of calls. Complete CDR information for each individual SIM card.

Specifications of NovaTec Billing:

The software NovaTec Billing runs on the Microsoft Windows® compatible PC’s with the minimum configuration of Pentium II 350 MHz CPU, 128 MB RAM and ca. 8 MB hard disk. Further requirements are operating Microsoft Windows® 9x, ME, NT, 2000 or XP and Microsoft Windows® Access Databank Driver (in scope of delivery).

Network Management System – NMS

The NMS system is provisionally designed for persons or companies that operate and support several NovaTec systems.

These can be e.g. telecommunications resellers who operate a customer service for NovaTec systems and would like to update tariff tables or software of these end users etc.

The Network Management System (NMS) is an application which is installed on a PC.

On the computer the minimum requirement software is Windows 95/98/NT or XP.

Further for the support of the NovaTec systems the PC must have a connection to the fixed telephone network so that the PC can be called.

In the NovaTec systems the function “Call-Home” can be activated.

When certain criteria are reached the NovaTec system will execute a telephone call to the NMS.

These criteria can be any or all of the following:

  • Timed Event, this is a “life sign” to say that the equipment is running and all is in order and can be daily, weekly or monthly.
  • A special event, e.g. CDR information to be downloaded, the equipment has performed a reset, or SIM card in a NMG is out of budget etc.
  • Power supply fail, or interfaces have failed either subscriber side or telecom side.

Also the following can take place on connection to the NMS with the end device be it NovaTec system.

  • Resetting of SIM card budgets.
  • Updating of tariff tables.
  • Firmware updates for the end devices.
  • Downloading of the CDR information and transferal to the NovaTec Billing program for evaluation and invoicing.
  • Download of the log book and traces for diagnostics.

Ideally these Call-Home events should be executed during the quiet hours, so resulting in a minimum of interruption to personnel and business environment.
