Our Answer

What is the usual use of the PT-Repeater ? The PT-Repeater is usually used for the range extension of U0 -Interfaces. A typical application is described  here .
Where gets the PT-Repeater its power supply ? The PT-Repeater can be powered in two ways. Either locally with a power supply unit, or remotely by using power feeding over the U0 -Interface. If the PT-Repeater is used between two PTs, the U0-Interface does not provide the remotely power feeding. In this case the use of an USP is necessary to generate a remotely power feeding for the PT-Repeater.
Due to the cable length the PT-Repeater must be burried in the ground. Is this possible ? Of course, the PT-Repeater can be delivered in an aluminium compact housing. This box has the required mechanical stability and is waterproof.  For the power supply in this case we recommend the USP.
Which range can be realised with the PT-Repeater ? The maximum length betwen the PTs depends on the quality and the attenuation of the cable. According to our experience a range of ~ 8 km can be realised on a cable with a diameter of 0,6 mm per conductor.  Basic rule: The higher the diameter of the wire is, the higher is the range. In the line there must not be any amplifiers or filter which limits the band width of the line. A limit value is a maximum attenuation of  40 dB at 40 kHz.
