Networking of municipal institutions

    Solution Town Schweinfurt

The problem

In times, when city councils have to realise more and more savings, one important way for them to make these savings is to reduce costs in the field of telecommunications.

Normally every city has different institutions, e. g. town hall, fire department, district council etc., which are located in different places within the city area. For a telephone call between these, e. g. from town hall to the district council, this telephone call over the public telephone network has to be paid by the community.

The city of Schweinfurt has its own network consisting of several twisted pair copper wires, which connect together the afore mentioned institutions, but these were not used due to the long distances between these institutions.

The task was, to find a solution for using these lines for the internal connections between all of the institutions.

The solution

The use of the PT-SU  and the PT-US allows the range extension of the ISDN-BRI-Interface up to 8 km with the use of a simple twisted pair copper wire. If more than 4 ISDN-BRI-Interfaces have to be extended, we recommend the use of the PTI and the   PT-US .

The realisation

In the town hall of Schweinfurt an ISDN-telephone exchange is located, which provides several ISDN-BRI-Interfaces. For a connection e. g. between town hall and city council, the BRI-Interface of the telephone exchange is connected with a PT-SU. The U-Interface of the PT-SU is connected with the copper wire, which connects the town hall with the city council. On the other side of this wire (at city council) the PT-US is connected and behind this, either an ISDN-telephone or another PABX is attached. After a one-time investment for the PTs, the connections between the institutions are now free of charge. This results in a continuing cost reduction.
