Least cost routing, we all know it, or we know of fixed network least cost routing! But what about Least Cost routing for mobile telephones, why hasn't someone thought of that?
Well here at NovaTec Kommunikationstechnik GmbH we have thought about it and now have realised this application.
The software is used in conjunction with the GSM Gateway, and must be downloaded to either a Symbian (recommended) or Java Version mobile phone.
Where a call made from the Mobile phone is either dialled
direct through, to the called number when the call is an internal one, e. g.Vodafone -
Vodafone, or if the call is to another provider the TOM will then least cost
route the call to the GSM Gateway, this will then decide if the call is to be
terminated through the fixed network, or to another mobile provider, if to the
fixed network it will initiate a call back through the cheapest fixed network
provider back to the user, if the call is to another mobile provider the GSM
gateway will initiate the callback from the other mobile provider’s simcard.
The Requirements
The mobile
Telephone must be able to support character lengths of 25 for the input and
saving in memory.
The Symbol P (for pause) and # (for end of input) must also be supported for the TOM to be able to function correctly.
To find out if these are supported please consult the equipments handbook or enquire your telephone supplier.
Also to use the TOM service the CLIP function on the mobile telephone must be activated, so the software can recognise what number the call is coming from. If the call was made from a mobile telephone in incognito mode this would not be recognised by the service and the call would be rejected.
Remarks
It can happen that the call connection may take longer than
a regular call connections this is due to the cheaper connections having to be
specially routed, but this would normally only effect calls into other mobile
network providers.
How does the TOM Operate?
After signing the order, and payment has been made for
the Time limited contract (3Mths, 6 Mths or 12 Mths available),the order number,
the customer IMEI number and phone number, with the calling number of the
Simcard are given to NovaTec, (also the service provider must make available to
NovaTec the numbers of the Simcards within the TMG to be used for Homezone
and International connections). When this information is received by NovaTec,
the customer will then receive an SMS, within this SMS is a WAP Push link to
a website, when this link is activated the customer will then receive the TOM
Software downloaded onto his Phone, he will then be asked to confirm
installation, when this is confirmed he can then use the functions of the TOM.
Notes
The TOM software and applications can be
Co-branded with the NovaTec Logo and the service providers Logo.
The TOM software can be turned off and on by the user when required.
